The Western Division of the American Fisheries Society (WDAFS), Washington/British Columbia Chapter of AFS (WABC) and the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) have teamed up to host an aquatic film and photography festival for the Vancouver meeting. NOAA, Beyond the Pond and Fishpond are helping to sponsor the festival.
Meeting attendees and the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend. The festival will take place from 10:20am – 5:20pm Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14 and 15, in Salon F at the Pinnacle Hotel. Additionally, there will be an evening event on Tuesday, April 15th from 7:30pm – 11pm in the Harbourfront Ballroom.
The festival will highlight over 50 films and 70 photographs that collectively capture the beauty, diversity and wonder of our aquatic environments. These images convey connections between people and fish, the unique life cycles and habitat needs of different species, and how resource practitioners and ordinary people are elevating challenges associated with a changing world and working to conserve fish and their habitats across the nation. The films are from a variety of perspectives—including commercial and sport fishermen, subsistence users, researchers and managers, volunteers, landowners, and even fish themselves. Films will be grouped into showing sessions covering topics of habitat conservation, fisheries management, fisheries research and education, human interest and artistic impression.
